Why does plastic remain the default for cosmetic packaging?

Plastic is convenient – but hard to recover.
Plastic is often cheaper and easier to transport than other materials. Packaging that escapes recycling can break down into micro- and nanoplastics, which spread through water and plants.

Glass comes with a higher upfront cost.
Glass is an alternative to plastic, even thought it costs more initially. L’ali® has it’s own system for reusing glass bottles and jars. It provides second life to the costly materials. Customers can return glass containers for inspection. Those fit for reuse are cleaned and prepared for another use; damaged or unsuitable packaging is recycled. The return scheme also rewards customers with a discount.

Green claims deserve scrutiny.
We encourage consumers to look beyond labels such as “bioplastic” and consider the material’s real environmental impact and what happens to it after use.

Consumer choices can shift the market.
L’ali® aims to help people consider packaging when they shop. This change is gradual, as more consumers begin to look for alternatives.
